This weekend Chris and I did our race, Lake to Lake. I would be lying if I said I was thrilled that Chris did so great. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally happy for him. But part of me really wishes he struggled, even just a little so he could empathize with how hard I had to work to get where I'm at in my running.
We headed down to St. George Friday morning with our kids. The minute we got there they wanted to take off to the pool. We decided since we were ditching them for dinner and the whole day on Saturday we should take them for a swim.
After their swim we headed back to the condo to hang with GG, cable tv and make them a yummy dinner of Mac n' Cheese. They loved it!
Chris and I headed out to meet our team members for dinner and to literally meet them. We got on this team from another friend so we didn't know the other 3 team members.
Saturday we meet up with our team and headed for Gunlock Lake.
Chris did more than great, he rocked. I'm so proud of him.
I was runner 2 so I ran before Chris. It was a beautiful morning. The temperature was perfect! On my first run I was starting to pass this girl who's teammates had told her not to let me get past her. We ran for a long while together but little did she know my strength on hills. We hit a big one and I was off! It was a great run.Chris was runner 4. When we got out of the car to meet our other runner, I locked the keys in the car. I couldn't believe it. The crazy thing was, I kept thinking "don't lock the keys in the car". Luckily a window was cracked. I mean cracked, not open. I wedged my arm through and pulled up the lock. I got a nice bruise for my efforts. Chris took off and we went to support him. I got lost. and lost. and lost. I felt so bad, it being his first run and all. Really, the directions were extremely poorly written. One of the sentences stated, "turn left right on .... blvd." Really? left right? What direction is that? Anyhow, we caught him and all was well.
My second run I was runner 7. It was all up hill for 4.4 miles. It felt great. It was definitely getting hot mid day and I was a little worried for Chris. No worries, he did fine. More than fine. He rocked!
Chris was runner 8 and he had quite the hills himself to climb. I was anxiously waiting for him to say he couldn't finish but he was amazing and didn't stop once.
The end of his last run was this killer hill that there is no way I could do it justice with a camera. Not only was it crazy huge but it was red dirt the whole way up and the whole way down. Chris is an animal!
Our team was awesome. We had so much fun getting to know everyone, spending the day running. We finished at Sand Hollow Reservoir. It was beautiful. Too bad it was too cold to jump in the water.
Our kids were so good. They got to spend the day with GG, took a drive in the coveted convertible and went on a hike. After we got back to the kids we made some dinner and headed back to the pool. After the pool we played some UNO and the kids all sat around watching cartoons.
Sunday we cleaned up, watched the hockey game and took our kids to see the big rocks where Dixie is painted.
They had so much fun crawling in all the crevasses.
When Chris and I got married we spent most our honeymoon in St. George. Chris took me to this crack in the earth that people can shimmy through. It is seriously SO tight.
We took our kids there to crawl through. They thought it was awesome. They ran around to do it a second time.
Look how crazy tight that is! I started through with the kids and started totally freaking out so I turned back. Tyler was so cute, he kept encouraging me even though he was starting to get claustrophobic. This year one of my new goals was to do something scary, so I plugged on through and finished! I think completing a goal was the only way I kept going.
This is the view from the top. It's about 18ft. deep. I put my arm across the top and it was from my wrist bone to not even my elbow wide. We are talkin' about 10"-12" wide.
It's just a reminder that we can do hard things.
Such a fun trip. My kids had a blast and want to make going to the red rocks a tradition.
After our hike we headed to Menchie's for some frozen yogurt. They are almost identical to Yogurtland.
Perfect way to end the trip.
