Fun Fruit

A few weeks ago a friend challenged me to eat a fruit I hadn't before. Caely and I went to the store and she saw this beauty...It's Dragon Fruit and it comes from China. I was going to peel it with a potato peeler, but the lady at the store told me you cut it in half and eat it out with a spoon like a melon.

We cut it open and it was really pretty to look at. The taste, however, was bland. The black seeds are like raspberry seeds (which I like) but the taste is too mild and almost not there. It's kind of an expensive fruit too. No one really loved it, but I'm glad we tried it.
We also grabbed this thing...
It's a feijoa. The lady at the store also told me that you slice it like a cucumber and eat it in slices. You can also scoop it out like the dragon fruit.
I liked it, but not enough to add it to my shopping list. It had a similar taste to kiwi and something else mixed.

I think we'll try something new once a month, and I think it helps to have my kids pick what we are trying.

That's a great idea. I'll have to try it. It'd be a good way for me to get over my fear of new foods. I mean, how gross can fruit be??
