Naughty Valentinve

It started as a lovely day (it still is).

Patch had a valentines party at preschool today. He got all decked out, and was very excited to get some treats from friends at school.

A neighbor friend stopped by before Patch left and they made a deal that after school, they would share their new treasures with each other. SO cute!

After school we had lunch and then Chris left to do some work at his parents while I headed upstairs to shower.

When I got out I heard a new voice in the house. It was this sweet friend coming by for the sharing of bounteous goods. I let them be and proceeded to get ready. I just happened to peek down the stairs and saw Caely's valentines box, full of treats for tomorrow's party, tipped on its side.

Immediate stress goes through my body! Patch and Caely had the same box and it's starting to click that the boys mistook her box by mistake.

I'm thinking we're fine seeing as I only found two wrappers on the table. TOTALLY fixable, right?

I ask the boys if they've only had one, when the sweet neighbor spills his guts and says they had lots. A look of terror and confusion is going through this kid because he knows I already said earlier that they could share the treats, but he also knows I'm pissed!

I try not to freak out then point out their mistake, that Patch's box is STILL in his backpack and they have just eaten 1/2 of Caely's treats.

Of course I can go get more, I realize that. It's just that they are out of this particular treat, and the hassle of getting something else is less than pleasing, plus you know there will be tears by the bigger sister who has to rewrite all the valentines.

If this kid and his friend weren't so dang cute...

cuteness has saved my kids multiple times. And at least the day ended on a high note, right?! :)
