Croupy Kid

Thursday night I was at book group, which translate to mean I came home very late. It was about 12:30am and as my friend was dropping me off, our garage door was going up. Chris had Patch in arms and was headed AGAIN to the ER. This is our third time since January. The poor kid couldn't breathe at all. I traded Chris places so he could go back to bed and be ready for work the next day~ you never know how long you could be there.
Patch is so comfortable going, he has the routine down, it's actually kind of funny. He gets to be up in the middle of the night with just mom, have a Popsicle and watch Disney Channel (we don't have cable so this is a big treat for him). The doctors and nurses are always so nice, and Patch puts on the charm for a little attention.
The doctor said that since we've been so often, he calls it rapid croup (which is NOT a technical term). He said that it comes rapidly with no warning, usually in the middle of the night, and leaves just as quickly after being treated. There isn't anything we can do to prevent or take care of on our own, so we just have to keep having these middle of the night ER visits.
Really, I too am coming to enjoy these crazy nights with Patch. It makes for some fun memories for me, since he's so well behaved during the wee hours of the morning, and special time with just him.

Kelsy was our croupy girl. She too would get "rapid" croup and we would have to go to the er. It is just not fun. She hasn't got it since she was about 6. I hope he won't keep getting it!
