It's too bad this has gone this far. I often don't say anything because I have cousins that are gay and lesbian. They have felt outcast and that we don't love them, or so I'm told by other relatives. This is entirely not true. I do stand by the church in that I do not believe in same sex marriages. I stand by my morals and values. Not that they don't have any, they're just different than mine. I just finally feel I need to share my voice about this.
It hurts me that it's okay for them to slander the church, but it hasn't been okay for us to disagree with their life style. I love them both and respect that, but also expect the same in return - from anyone. My mom had something great to say about this. You can check it out at Gma Reinie. I try to stand for truth and righteousness at all times and in all things and in all places.
I am thankful for the Catholic church in coming to stand with many religions, but especially the LDS church and that they were willing to say something about the unfair judgment placed on the church. This video has a great point about if Prop. 8 passed that churches could be sued for discrimination if they didn't allow gay couples to be apart of their congregation.
That being said. Can't we all just get along.

Very brave post Emily. I admire your courage.
I too have been dismayed by the backlash this has had. A vote was taken, and the people ultimately decided their choice. Unfortunately, I have felt like there have been people on both sides of the issue who spread hate, fear, and bigotry. Just one more thing that reminds me to just follow the Spirit.
